I watched the entire DemonsBane series over at Scott’s place the other day, and it’s an excellent, excellent show.
The world is filled with dark arts, and the distribution of grimoires is tightly controlled by the Black Lodge. Kurou Daijuuji, a starving detective, is approached by The Hadou Concern to find a grimoire, a real one “with power.” Daijuuji replies that grimoires are always filled with the ramblings of troublemakers, but agrees to the job in exchange for a generous upfront payment. As he begins his search, Al Aziz, the Necronomicon, falls from the sky on top of him in the form of a young girl.
The Black Lodge in close pursuit, Daijuuji makes a pact with the Necronomicon to become a socerer. She summons a Deus Machina from close by, DemonBane, much to the consternation of the Hadou, which built DemonBane.
DemonBane is very, very loosely based on the Cthulu Mythos, which makes for some interesting homage and jokes. Ultimately the DemonBane TV series is a vehicle for action, and it delivers.
